NEW YORK - Northwell Health recently held a Sports Science Youth Clinic designed to teach young athletes about proper training techniques and injury prevention. The event, which took place at a local facility, brought together kids from various sports backgrounds to learn from medical professionals and trainers.
The clinic focused on educating participants about the science behind athletic performance. Young athletes rotated through stations that covered topics such as hydration, proper warm-up routines, and recovery methods. Experts demonstrated how to avoid common injuries by using correct form during exercises and drills.
One of the highlights was a session on biomechanics, where children learned how their bodies move during different sports like soccer, basketball, and hockey. Trainers used simple tools and demonstrations to show how small adjustments in posture or foot placement can improve speed and reduce strain on joints.
Parents were also invited to attend a short seminar on recognizing signs of overtraining and the importance of rest days. Organizers emphasized that the goal was not just to make better athletes, but to foster a lifelong understanding of health and wellness.
The event concluded with a Q&A session where kids asked questions about their favorite sports and how to stay safe while playing. Northwell Health plans to continue these clinics in the future, aiming to reach more communities with hands-on sports science education.
