Health officials warn of new measles exposure site at Kaiser Mt. Scott in Clackamas

Health officials warn of new measles exposure site at Kaiser Mt. Scott in Clackamas

Oregon health authorities have issued a warning about a potential measles exposure at Kaiser Permanente Mount Scott in Clackamas. The Oregon Health Authority and Clackamas County Public Health Division are asking anyone who visited the facility on August 6 between 1:35 and 3:44 in the afternoon to take precautions.

During that time window, officials say, a person with a confirmed case of measles was present in the building. Those who were there should first verify their vaccination status. People who have received two doses of the MMR vaccine are generally considered protected. Anyone who is unvaccinated, has only had one dose, or is unsure of their immunization history should watch closely for symptoms.

Measles symptoms typically appear seven to fourteen days after exposure. Early signs include fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. A telltale rash usually breaks out a few days later, often starting on the face and spreading downward. Anyone who develops these symptoms should call their doctor before going to a clinic or emergency room so staff can isolate them and prevent further spread.

The virus is highly contagious and can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves a room. Officials stress that infants too young for vaccination, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems face the highest risk. This is the latest in a series of exposure notices tied to recent cases in the Portland metro area. Health leaders continue to urge residents to stay current on their shots.
